More and more people access the Internet through a broadband or "always-on" connection. "Always-on" connections make a system more vulnerable to system intruders such as hackers. As a result, virus protection alone is not enough. Antivirus software protects your computer against viruses. A firewall protects your computer against other types of Internet threats such as hackers, worms and Trojan horses, which cannot be fully detected by any antivirus software. Conversely, firewall software does not necessarily protect your computer against all types of viruses. As a result, it is advisable to install both antivirus and firewall software to achieve a minimum protection level.
