How do I power cycle (reboot) my modem?

Rebooting (power cycling) a Northwestel Modem

Solution 1

  1. Unplug the power from your Northwestel Modem, leaving all other connections secure
  2. Plug the power back into your Northwestel Modem only
  3. Wait until the Northwestel Modem comes back online, as indicated by a steady Online light (this may take a few minutes depending on the model of Northwestel Modem that you have)
  4. Restart your computer and test your Internet connection

Rebooting (power cycling) a Northwestel Modem that is connected to a router

Solution 1

  1. Unplug the power from your Northwestel Modem, leaving all other connections secure
  2. Unplug the power from your router and wait at least 30 seconds
  3. Plug the power back into your Northwestel Modem only
  4. Wait until the Northwestel Modem comes back online, as indicated by a steady Online light (this may take a few minutes depending on the model of Northwestel Modem that you have)
  5. Plug the power back into your router
  6. Restart your computer and test your Internet connection

Solution 2

If you are still experiencing issues after following the above steps, please follow these steps to bypass your router:

  1. Unplug the power from your Northwestel Modem and shut down your computer
  2. Disconnect the network (Ethernet) cable from the back of the router and plug this cable into your computer, establishing a direct connection between your Northwestel Modem and computer
  3. Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug the power back into your Northwestel Modem
  4. Wait until the Northwestel Modem is online, as indicated by a steady Online light
  5. Turn on your computer and test your Internet connection

If you are able to connect to the Internet while connected directly to the modem, you will need to consult the manufacturer of your router for further support.
