How Do I Change My "Wifi" Password?

Here are the basic steps for changing your Wi-Fi password, followed by specific instructions for our current modems:

  1. Login into your control panel while connected to your network.
  2. Look for the Wireless setup section (may be called WLAN or WPS Security).
  3. Find the name of your Wi-Fi network (also called SSID).
  4. Change the password (may be called Passphrase, Security Key or just Key).
  5. On each wireless device you use, change the Wi-Fi password.

DSL Internet*

SmartRG SR516ac (black) or SmartRG 505n (white) Wireless Modem Wi-Fi Password Settings

  1. SmartRG SR516ac (black): In a web browser, go to http://192.168.1.1/admin
    SmartRG SR505n (white): in a web browser, go to http://192.168.12.1
  2. Enter your user name and password.
    Default user name: admin
    Default password: password
  3. Click the Wireless link.
  4. Ensure that Network Authentication is set to 'Mixed WPA2/WPA-PSK'.
  5. Ensure that 'Use base MAC address as WPA/WAPI passphrase is unchecked.
  6. Enter the new passphrase in the WPA/WAPI passphrase field, minimum 8 characters.
  7. Click Apply/Save.

Cable Internet**

Hitron Modem Wi-Fi Password Settings

  1. In a web browser, go to http://192.168.0.1
  2. Enter your user name and password.
    CODA 4xxx modems:
    Default user name: cusadmin
    The password is the current wi-fi password
    3552 modems:
    Default user name: cusadmin
    Default password: password
  3. Select Wireless from the top menu.
  4. Select the WPS & Security tab.
  5. In the Security section, look for the Password field and enter a new password, minimum 8 characters.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Cisco Modem Wi-Fi Password Settings

  1. In a web browser, go to https://northwestel.smartrg.com/prime-home/control-panel/
  2. Enter your user name and passphrase.
    User name: the email address you provided when you ordered internet
    Passphrase will be the one you selected the first time you logged into the control panel (note that there is a password recovery function)
  3. Under 'My Wireless Network', click the WiFi link.
  4. In the Key field, change the password, minimum 8 characters.
  5. Click Save at the top of the screen.

Pulse Media Gateway Wi-Fi Password Settings‡

  1. In a web browser, go to http://192.168.0.1
  2. Enter your user name and password.
    Default user name: admin
    Default password: password
  3. In the Wireless section, look for the name of your wi-fi network (SSID).
  4. Change the password in the Password field, minimum 8 characters.
  5. Click Apply.

 ‡ - These instructions apply if your Pulse Gateway is providing the internet. If you're using a separate modem, follow the instructions for the Hitron modem above.
